Upgrade ODS during server Upgrade?

We're upgrding from 7.0.2FP1 to 8.5FP1 in 2 weeks. Best practices says not to upgrade the ODS until after you're sure the server is stable under 8.5. Various techs have agreed & disagreed to that saying they've seen no problems with the ODS upgrade. If I wait a few weeks to do the ODS, I have to schedule a second outage for the business, as opposed to getting it all done once. What are your thoughts on this?
